ProStor Systems Names Randy Kerns CTO

Industry veteran, former analyst to spearhead RDX® technology strategy

BOULDER, Colo. – Oct. 23, 2006 – ProStor Systems, a developer of removable disk storage solutions, today announced the appointment of industry veteran, and former storage analyst and consultant, Randy Kerns,  as its new chief technology officer.  He joins an executive team that has more than 150 years of disk and tape storage engineering and marketing experience.Kerns is responsible for helping to develop the strategic roadmap for the industry's first disk-to-removable disk backup and archive technology that offers enterprise-class data protection and performance for servers, networks and professional workstations at an affordable price. He reports to ProStor Systems President and CEO Steve Georgis.

Prior to joining ProStor, Kerns served as an independent industry analyst, covering storage and storage management software including SAN and NAS analysis. He also was a partner at the Evaluator Group, responsible for product analysis and company evaluation. Kerns assisted major end-user clients in developing their storage strategies and vendors with their product strategies.

With more than 30 years of experience in the computer technology industry and a background in product design and development, Kerns has also served as vice president of strategy and planning for storage at Sun Microsystems Inc. He developed disk and tape systems for mainframe attachment at IBM and StorageTek; disk systems for attachment to open systems and proprietary computer platforms at Fujitsu and Tandem Computers; and tape and disk systems for both open systems and mainframes at two start-up companies.

"Randy has the experience, the knowledge and the vision that makes him the perfect person to lead the development of RDX technology as CTO now and into the future," said Georgis. "He is uniquely qualified as a former industry analyst and technology strategist to give us an honest appraisal as to how our technology plays in the marketplace and what is required to make it the de facto standard in removable hard disk storage."

Kerns has made numerous presentations at conferences and has written several industry articles and papers. He is the author of Planning a Storage Strategy, a new book that offers step-by-step guidance on how to build an information storage strategy as part of a larger business process. Kerns received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Missouri at Rolla and a master’s degree in engineering computer science from the University of Colorado.
